The 20,500-seat soccer park and stadium is home to Austin FC, the Texas city’s Major League Soccer team. The 24-acre site also will serve as an outdoor venue for concerts and other hospitality events. Ceco provided formwork services for the decks (pans) and placed the vertical concrete for the 90-foot-tall super columns.
To eliminate the appearance of pour joints and concrete color differences in the exposed columns, Ceco performed no more than four pours per column, with some pour heights totaling as much as 34 feet, while adding 1½-inch-thick embed plates for the roof tie-in. To prevent any honeycombing at the columns’ surfaces, the crew used five 40-foot-long concrete vibrators to eliminate air bubbles and provide a smooth finish. The vertical pour process enabled the crew to maintain an aggressive project schedule. For more about the project, see “Major League Soccer Stadium Rises in Austin” in our News section.
