The Imprint luxury apartment complex, formerly known as the 717 S. Clark St. project, achieved Two Green Globes for New Construction certification. The rating demonstrates the project team’s commitment to and significant achievement of sustainability efforts during the design and construction delivery process.

Located in Chicago’s historic Printer’s Row neighborhood, the 31-story building was developed by Chicago-based CMK Companies and designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture (HPA). Cyclone Energy Group provided Green Globes consulting, energy modeling for design optimization and commissioning of building systems for operational energy efficiency. Tribco provided the complete cast-in-place concrete frame for Lendlease Corp., using a post-tensioned (PT) flat plate structural system. The concrete structural design was by C.E. Anderson & Associates.

The use of PT concrete played a key part in achieving Green Globes certification. The Green Globes Technical Reference Manual lists PT concrete as an example of efficient designs that minimize the use of raw materials. PT slabs are thinner and longer without risk to their strength or structural integrity since the cables inside the slabs help to stabilize them.

About Green Globes certification
Administered by the Green Building Initiative (GBI), Green Globes is a nationally recognized green rating assessment and certification system that ensures buildings meet clearly defined criteria in seven assessment areas: Project Management, Site, Energy, Water, Resources, Emissions and Indoor Environment. The certification process includes an onsite assessment with a third-party assessor to verify implementation.

Green Globes ratings are based on projects’ resource efficiency and commitment to reducing environmental impacts and improving occupant wellness.

  • Four Green Globes: Demonstrates world-class leadership.
  • Three Green Globes: Demonstrates outstanding success.
  • Two Green Globes: Demonstrates significant achievement.
  • One Green Globe: Demonstrates a strong commitment.

Imprint received a Two Green Globes rating due to the project’s energy-efficient design, green roofing and renewable materials as well other sustainability practices including indoor air quality management, recyclable collection and bicycle storage.
