CECO’S RICK EDER NAMED CHAIR OF ACI 347 – FORMWORK FOR CONCRETE

CECO’S RICK EDER NAMED CHAIR OF ACI 347 – FORMWORK FOR CONCRETE

Jun 4th 2021

Ceco is proud to announce that Director of Engineering Rick Eder was named Committee Chair of ACI 347 – Formwork for Concrete. Rick brings decades of expertise as a Ceco engineer to this volunteer position as well as more than six years of experience as a valued committee member.

For the next three years, Rick will lead the committee’s 85 members in their mission to develop and disseminate information related to formwork for concrete construction. The committee is currently working on a first-of-its-kind design specification for formwork as well as updating existing committee documents so they reflect current practices and research. ACI 347 – Formwork for Concrete also provides guidance on formwork pressure when using self-consolidating concrete (SCC) and serves as a resource for ACI Committee 301 – Specifications for Concrete Construction on formwork and formed concrete surfaces.

A committee member since 2014, Rick has been serving as secretary since April 2018. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in structural engineering from the University of Cincinnati (2001, 2003). Rick began working for Ceco in 2004 and has since built his career with us. Learn more about Rick and what he will be doing in his new role below:

What is the objective of your role as Chair of ACI Committee 347?
During my tenure, we will complete and publish the first-ever ACI Design Specification for Formwork for Concrete. This has been in development since 2015, and my objective will be to complete this process and get it published in a quick, efficient manner. We will also update the ACI 347 Guide to Formwork for Concrete and the 347.3 Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces.

What vision do you bring to this role?
To continue the long line of leadership for the committee by bringing in ideas from all areas of the construction industry (contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, structural designers and academics). I hope to bring organization, order and discipline to the process so we can move quickly to implement the documents we are working on.

What personal expertise do you bring to this position?
I am an expert in formwork design, formwork equipment design, concrete construction processes and structural analysis.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
I love to travel—London and Edinburgh [Scotland] are my favorite destinations. I am also a baseball fan, and specifically, a Chicago Cubs fan.
